Naturally

One of our favorite places is Harvard's Museum of Natural History. Their collection includes taxidermied animals, shiny rocks and gems, totem poles, dino bones and, of course, the elusive coelacanth.

Des colores

We just spent a week in the Dominican Republic. So nice to get a dose of color after all the winter gray and gloom back home.

Skateaway

Hallelujah, here she comes. Queen rollerball. Enchante, what can I say? Don't care at all. You know she used to have to wait around. She used to be the lonely one. But now that she can skate around town, she's the only one.
(Thanks, Dire Straits.)

Curly q

In the humidity of the Carribean, Faye's normally wavy hair sprung into boing-boing curls. I wound them round my fingers and rubbed them against my cheeks. Then, while she slept in my lap on the flight home, I watched them wilt in the dry cabin air. Now she's back to being wavy (but she's still really cute).

Nesting

A friend of mine told me he is going to Russia and that made me think of these matryoshka dolls that sit in my living room. The front set was given to Anna by Leah, the Russian woman who took care of her when she was little. (Thanks to Leah, Anna could understand Russian and say a few words by the time she was two years old.) The back set was mine as a little girl – a gift from Aunt Dot who traveled everywhere and had a magical room in her house, full of treasures from around the world.
